Hilton Area Swim Team (HAST)

HAST is a parent-run, non-profit competitive swim team for all age groups. Certified coaches teach and refine the four Olympic strokes: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. Swim meets provide opportunities for swimmers to compete, learn, and have fun. HAST is a member of USA Swimming , Niagara Swimming, and the Genesee Valley Swim League, adhering to their rules and regulations for competitive swimming.

Through competitive swimming, HAST fosters a safe environment for athletes to develop good sportsmanship, honesty, and loyalty. Swimmers of all abilities are welcome, from beginners (must be able to swim without a flotation device) to advanced. Participants come from Hilton, Greece, Spencerport, Hamlin, Irondequoit, Brockport, and other surrounding areas.

Competitive swimming has two seasons:

  • Short Course (September-April): Focuses on shorter pool distances in yards.
  • Long Course (April-August): Focuses on longer pool distances in meters.

HAST promotes swimmers based on skill and stamina, regardless of the season.

Most practices are Monday-Friday between 5-7:30 PM, with additional seasonal options.

  • Families should select a practice schedule that works best for their swimmer and schedule.
  • Beginner practices are 45 minutes, with times increasing with each skill level.
  • Practice frequency and duration increase with skill level.

When swimmers are ready, there are approximately two meets per month. Meets are held at various locations, including the Merton Williams Middle School pool and area high schools like Spencerport, Webster, Penfield, and Victor. See our Meet Information page for more about competitions.
